Jokulsarlon

A display of some photography from two days in Jokulsarlon, which translates to "glacial lagoon".

Another day at Hvalfjordur

Large crowds have started to gather to watch the flensing of the gigantic fin whales that are hauled in on a daily basis.  I interviewed one man who brought his children to attend the arrival of the 76th dead whale who described the killing as Icelandic tradition.  The Icelanders I have spoken to are about 50/50 on whether or not it should be regarded as an aspect of their culture.

Midnight catch

I witnessed whalers bring in two more fin whales around 1 AM a couple of nights ago...I taped the whole thing, but here are two stills from that night.  I can't get used to the sight of these marine giants lying lifelessly on Hvalur hf's commercial cutting board.

Two fin whales are being dragged along the other side of this Hvalur hf ship.  Very strange to see something so ugly taking place in such a beautiful setting.

ICELANDIC WILDLIFE

I find puffins to be very entertaining...They are like sophisticated little men preparing to go to work...
